Today is the birthday of American Beat poet and novelist Jack Kerouac, born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1922. His seminal novel, On the Road, (written in 1951; published in 1957), was legendarily written in three weeks on one continuous roll of Teletype paper. His writing style has been the inspiration of countless writers and artists.
