On this date in 1967 Bill Carskadon of Chicago has the longest dream on record during REM sleep — two hours and twenty-three minutes. Speaking of dreamers, today in 1967 John Lennon passes his driving test. And, speaking of driving, on this day in 1936 Adolf Hitler announces the building of Volkswagens, which allegedly started the Slug Bug game — an in-the-car pastime of VWs and hitting: upon spotting a VW Beetle you punch everyone close to you and yell "Slug Bug! No returns!!" meaning the slugged party cannot return the gesture and if they break that rule you get to hit them again. The person who slugs the most people wins. Nice. I'm sure Mr. Hitler would have liked that.
